Hey Guys

We have a Explorer UZ 04 V6 and it has what I would call a brake shudder. It happens when you travel say half hour trip in the car. It doesn’t seem to happen on short distances. It has been there since we bought it a few months ago. We have replaced the Brake pads and the Brake disks and it still seems to do it !!
Does anyone have any other suggestions ???

Thanks in advance yummy Brake Shudder ??

hey everyone, i have a 1999 ford explorer xls 4.0l 6-cylinder. a little while ago i was driving my car and i started to smell smoke, got home and my car was running super hot. filled the anti-freeze and thought it was nothing to major. next day went to start it, nothing. wouldnt even start. after school i came home and gave it another attempt. i successfully got it started except there is a very thick, white smoke coming from my exhaust. talked to one of my dads friends, said it could be a blown head gasket and to check the oil and coolant. nothing! no sign of any coolant being in the oil, and vice versa with oil in the coolant.
so right now, here are the symptoms. hopefully someone here can point me in the right direction!

-white smoke from tail pipe
-leaking a brownish liquid from tailpipe, doesnt smell like oil or antifreez, but tastes like anti-freeze
-no oil in anti-freeze
-no coolant in oil
-over heats rather quickly
-oil looks diluted but no sign of water..?

thats about it, we also hooked up one of those computers to it and it showed no codes.
help is very much appreciated!!

I have a 1999 Explorer Sport. I love the car, but hate the small gas tank.

Does anyone make a replacement, bolt in gas tank that will up the tank size to at least 25 gallons? I have no problem getting rid of the spare tire under the car and using that entire space for additional fuel capacity.

I just want to be able to go over 400 miles between fill ups, and Im looking to replace the standard small fuel tank.

Any suggestions, links to companies that sell larger bolt in tanks?

btw: Im not looking to do major welding or fabrication… and if its not possible, then Ill be shopping for a different suv…

Thanks!!

Hello. I just got my son a 95 explorer 4×4 sport. 4.0 motor in it. I t runs good but having a problem with the idle. If you turn on the a/c & the clutch engages on the pump the rpm shoots up?? What’s up with that? HELP. Marty.
I have a 96 explorer, No power windows or locks, However when i use my key to unlock the door they all unlock. So i assume that means I do have keyless entry? I called ford and ask them and they dont know why any car would unlock all doors with a key if it didnt have power locks. Sooo….. What do yall think.
I have a 1999 Explorer Limited 5.0. I realized my back up lights were not working and the over drive button on the shift column was not working. I checked the fuse and found it had blown out. I replaced the fuse and the back up lights started to work. When I pushed the over dive button I blew out the fuse. I could hear it pop. I replaced the fuse again and the back up lights work now but I have not tried to use the over drive button. What could be causing this?

Thanks to all responder in advance!

I am new to the forums, I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. I am looking to lift my 03 Sport Trac 3 or 4 inches and get 33 or 35 inch tires.

When I first got my truck it was out of need so I did not have the option to get a 4WD so I am stuck without the option of a 4WD lift kit. Now that I have it paid off I would like to make it look good. I have been all over the NET and I cannot seem to find a lift kit for my truck. Does anyone know what lift kit or lift options I have?

also I am in the South Florida area can anyone recommend a repair shop that could do the work for me? at a good price…

My wife has a 1998 Mountaineer.
Recently the Auxilliary Power Point jack (located in the front near the Passenger’s left foot) stopped working.

I checked the Cigar Lighter fuse #17 in the passenger compartment with my Multi-Tester, it was OK.
I checked the Auxilliary Power fuse #2 under he hood, it was OK; I eventually checked every fuse under the hood; they were all OK.

I pulled off the center console and checked the connector to the power point.
The black wire was grounded, the brown wire – NO POWER.

Has anybody serviced this before or have a clue where this brown wire connects to the fuse box?

Check out this rebuttal to Jalopnik’s take on the new Ford Explorer. I think it’s a pretty good angle, especially after reading the article in question:

Welcome to Automotive Traveler

Earlier tonight I went to dinner with friends and my explorer was running fine. I went to leave, and it wouldn’t start. Initially I checked the fluids (fine), air filter (not brand new, but not horrible either) and the oil (also fine). I had power, so I don’t think it’s the battery, and it was trying to start, so I don’t think it’s the starter. The guy who gave me a jump (which did nothing) took a look and declared it has no "spark". I have no clue what that means, but he sounded like he knew what he was talking about.

So…any ideas? Thanks!
